CCJ at top of the agenda

Dominica has received the nod of approval from the United Kingdom for Dominica to proceed to officially recognize the Caribbean Court of Justice as its final Appellate Court. Prime Minister of Dominica, the Honourable Roosevelt Skerrit said on Monday, that the matter of the Caribbean Court of Justice will be on the agenda of the next sitting of Parliament.

“We have to go to the Parliament and follow the provisions of the constitution in terms of recognizing the court.  So we will go to Parliament very soon to start the process because there is, I believe, a 90-day period between the First Reading and the final reading taken in Parliament. Definitely it will be at the next Sitting. We believe that it will cause for there to be a greater justice for all our citizens in Dominica and the Caribbean and it is a mature move, it is a responsible move, it is a progressive move and it is a move towards gaining our full and outright independence as a people, as a country and as a region.”
