Contract Signed for Rehabilitation of Collapsed Road in Dublanc

ROSEAU, DOMINICA — The Government of the Commonwealth of Dominica today signed a contract with George Excavating & Trucking Services for the rehabilitation of the failed section of road in Dublanc.

Specifically, George Excavating & Trucking Services has been contracted to construct a retaining wall, pavement and drains in Dublanc along a section of the E. O. Leblanc Highway that collapsed following Tropical Storm Erika which took place on August 27, 2015 and was further damaged after heavy rainfall on March 12, 2016.

According to Public Works Minister Miriam Blanchard:

“The Government of the Commonwealth of Dominica took a decision that urgent rehabilitation works were necessary since the E. O. Leblanc Highway serves as the primary route for vehicular traffic between Roseau and the Portsmouth as well as a number of communities in between.

In spite of the fact that this area was earmarked for rehabilitated by the Government of the People’s Republic of China (PRC), the rapid deterioration necessitated the advancement of works. The Technical Services Division of the Ministry of Public Works and Ports prepared designs and estimates to rehabilitate this area of road.

On March 22, 2016, three contractors were short-listed and invited to tender on the project. Upon completion of the Tender Process, George Excavating & Trucking Services was awarded the contract to carry out the proposed works. The contract is valued at EC$1,114,248.80 and is scheduled to be completed in twelve weeks.”

About the Construction
The Works will include the construction of a reinforced concrete retaining wall (45 meters in length) with rock armour protection at its base, earthworks, concrete curb and reinstatement of the north bound lane to include sub-base, base and asphalt wearing course. The contract also includes the construction of 38m of rigid pavement and slipper drains along secondary village road.
